Erland Kops
Erland Kops (born January 14, 1937 in Copenhagen as Erland Olsen ; † February 17, 2017 ) was a Danish badminton player . Boxing Olympians Poul and Ebbe Kops were his uncles.
Career
Erland Kops was the dominant European badminton player in the 1960s. He won the All England eleven times between 1958 and 1969 (seven times men's singles, four times men's doubles). The introduction of the official badminton European championships in 1968 or even the world championships in 1977 came too late for him to win an official badminton association title. His heyday was over for him as a 30-year-old. At the beginning of the 1970s he therefore limited himself to the men's doubles on the side of Svend Pri or Henning Borch at major tournaments . With the latter he won silver in doubles in 1970 and thus his only European Championship medal. He played 44 international matches for Denmark from 1957 to 1972.
Kops was inducted into the Hall of Fame of Danish Sports in 1992 and the Badminton Hall of Fame in 1997 . 2013 he was the first member of the Hall of Fame of Badminton Europe added. In 1961 he was voted Denmark's Sportsman of the Year .
