David G. Freeman

David Guthrie "Dave" Freeman (born September 6, 1920 in Pasadena , California , † June 28, 2001 in Rancho Santa Fe , California) was an American badminton player .

Career

Freeman was the most important American badminton player in the period before and after World War II. In 1949 he was with the American team in the Thomas Cup finals, but lost in the semifinals against the eventual winner Malaya. He won the open US championships 15 times. In the All England he was twice in the finals. In 1948 he won the Denmark Open. In 1956 he was inducted into the US Badminton Hall of Fame . The Dave Freeman Open was named after him.
