Kento Momota ( Japanese 桃 田 賢 斗 , Momota Kento ; born September 1, 1994 in Kagawa Prefecture , Japan ) is a Japanese badminton player .

Career

Momota's greatest successes are winning the BWF World Superseries Finals 2015 in Dubai , the Indonesia Open 2015 and the bronze medal in the men's singles at the 2015 World Championships in Jakarta . In 2015 he won the Singapore Open and in 2016 the India Open . In 2011 he won bronze at the World Youth Championships in Taipei , and gold a year later in Chiba . In 2012 he also started at the Asian Championships , where he was eliminated in the round of 16 against eventual champion Chen Jin . In 2014 he also reached the round of 16 at the Asian Games . In 2013 he won the Swedish International Stockholm , Austrian International and Estonian International .

After a suspension, Momota made its comeback in February 2018 and managed to re-establish itself among the world's best within a few months: At the Asian Championships, he defeated u on his way to the title. a. World number two Shi Yuqi , Lee Chong Wei and the reigning Olympic champion Chen Long . At the Malaysia Open he had to admit defeat to Lee Chong Wei in the final. In the final of the Indonesia Open he prevailed in two clear sets with 21-14 and 21-9 against the world number one and reigning world champion Viktor Axelsen , and secured the title for the second time in his career.

Momota has also been the reigning world champion since August 2018, after beating Shi Yuqi in straight sets in the final .

Lock

In April 2016, Momota was suspended by the Japanese Badminton Association with immediate effect for several illegal visits to casinos and was also not nominated for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro .
