Chen Long ( Chinese  谌 龍 , Pinyin Chén Lóng ; born January 18, 1989 in Shashi , Jingzhou , Hubei , People's Republic of China ) is a Chinese badminton player and reigning Olympic champion in men's singles.

Athletic career

Chen's greatest successes so far were victories in the men's singles at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , at the 2014 World Championships in Copenhagen and 2015 in Jakarta in the final against Lee Chong Wei . With victories at the prestigious All England in 2013 and 2015 , he won two more important titles. At the 2012 Olympic Games in London he lost in the semifinals to Lee Chong Wei with 13:21, 14:21, but won the bronze medal over Lee Hyun-il with 21:12, 15:21, 21:15. From December 24, 2014 to June 9, 2016, Chen led the world rankings in men's singles for 76 weeks . In total, he has won the Olympic Games once , the World Championship twice, the BWF Super Series Finals twice , nine Superseries Premier tournaments , eight Superseries tournaments and five Grand Prix Gold tournaments . In his youth he was U-19 world and Asian champion in 2007 .

In 2015, he was the highest-earning badminton player of the year with a revenue of around $ 300,000.
