The men's individual badminton competition at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro was held from 11 to 20 August 2016 in "Pavilion 4" of the Riocentro . 41 athletes took part.

13 players were placed, which were distributed to the 13 groups. In the groups everyone played against everyone, the group winner qualified for the next round, which was played in the knockout system , in which the winners reached the next round. The losers in the semifinals then played the bronze medal.
