Badminton World Championship 2013
The 2013 Badminton World Cup took place from August 5th to 11th, 2013 in Guangzhou , People's Republic of China . China hosted the World Cup for the second time after 1987. It was the 20th edition of a badminton world championship of the world association BWF . The BWF gave the current Olympic and world champion Lin Dan , who took a break from competition until the 2013 Asian Championships , after the 2012 Summer Olympics . On the German side, Juliane Schenk declined to participate after quarrels with the national association. The qualified Olga Konon and Josche Zurwonne also had to cancel their participation at short notice.
Award of the event
The event was awarded on December 9, 2011 in Queenstown , New Zealand . Like Macau, Copenhagen had applied to host both the 2013 World Cup and the 2014 Badminton World Cup . For 2013 the world association chose Guangzhou, which had only applied for 2013. Copenhagen was awarded the contract for 2014.

345 players from 49 national member associations took part in the title fights.
