Robert Mateusiak
Robert Bogumił Mateusiak (born January 13, 1976 in Wołomin ) is a Polish badminton player . He was part of the Polish selection for the 2000 , 2004 , 2008 , 2012 and 2016 Summer Olympics .
Athletic career
Mateusiak won his first title at the Polish Junior Championships in 1992 together with Sylwia Rutkiewicz in mixed. In 1996 he won the first adult gold medal with her. Before that, he was successful again in 1994 at the junior championships together with Dariusz Karczmarczyk in men's doubles. In 1995 he won both singles and mixed games, this time with Anna Michalik at his side. He became the adult series champion from 1999. From 1999 to 2008, he won all national mixed titles (1999 with Monika Bienkowska, 2000-2005 with Barbara Kulanty and 2006-2008 with Nadieżda Kostiuczyk ). With Michał Łogosz he also fought for all championship titles in men's doubles from 1999 to 2008 (except for 2006). With him he was also able to qualify for the 2000 , 2004 and 2008 Summer Olympics . At the first two starts, the last sixteen ended up in the men's doubles. In 2008 he also competed in mixed with Nadieżda Kostiuczyk. In both disciplines it was even enough for the quarter-finals at these games, making him one of the most successful European starters in badminton at the 2008 Olympics. In 2012 he reached the quarter-finals again in mixed with Kostiuczyk-Zieba, but lost just under 21:19, 16:21, 21:23 to the later silver medalists Chen Xu / Jin Ma from China.
Mateusiak played from 1997 to 2008 for the German club Blau-Weiss Wittorf Neumünster mainly in the 2nd Bundesliga. For the 2008/2009 season he moved to Denmark to the Greve Strands Badminton Club .
