Ayyasamy Dharun (born December 1, 1996 in Avinashi , Tamil Nadu ) is an Indian athlete who specializes in the 400-meter run and 400-meter hurdles .

Athletic career

Ayyasamy Dharun gained his first international experience at the 2015 Asian Championships in Wuhan , where he finished fourth in the Indian 4 x 400 meter relay in 3: 05.14 minutes. The following year he qualified with the relay for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where he was disqualified in advance for a rule violation. In 2018 Ayyasamy took part in the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast for the first time , where he was eliminated from the 400 meter hurdles in the first round and was unable to finish his race with the Indian 4 x 400 meter relay in the final. At the end of August he won the silver medal behind the Katari Abderrahman Samba at the Asian Games in Jakarta with a new national record of 48.96 seconds . He also won the silver medal with the Indian relay in 3: 01.85 minutes. The following year he qualified for the World Championships in Doha , where he was eliminated with 50.55 s in the first round .

In 2018 Dharun became Indian champion in the 400-meter hurdles. He is studying human resources at Alva's College. His younger sister Sathya Ayyasamy is an Indian national volleyball player.
