Malaysia took part in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . It was the 15th participation in the Summer Olympics. The Olympic Council of Malaysia nominated 32 athletes in ten sports.

The flag bearer at the opening ceremony was the badminton player Lee Chong Wei .
