Career

Viktor Lőrincz comes from a family of wrestlers. His older brother is Tamás Lőrincz , the silver medalist from the 2012 Olympic Games lightweight . Viktor Lőrincz started wrestling at the age of seven. He focuses on the Greco-Roman style and belongs to the CVSE Csegled sports club . He was trained mainly by Ferenc Papp and Andras Szücs. He is a student and currently makes a living wrestling. He is also well known in German wrestling circles because he has been playing for 1. Luckenwalder SC in the German Bundesliga since 2011 .

Viktor Lőrincz made his debut on the international wrestling mat at the Junior European Championship (Cadets) in 2007, where he came 3rd in the weight class up to 76 kg and won a medal. Next he was at the Junior European Championship (Juniors) 2010 in Samokow / Bulgaria. He was even more successful there, as he was the new junior European champion in welterweight. At the Junior World Championships in Budapest in 2010, however, he lost his first fight against the Turkish Mehmedali Kucukosman, was eliminated and only came in 21st place.

In 2011 Viktor Lőrincz took part in the senior class for the first time at an international championship. But he lost at the World Championships in Istanbul in the middleweight division against Laimutis Adomaitis from Lithuania. Since this did not reach the final battle, he was eliminated and landed on the 38th place. But already at his next start in an international championship in the seniors he won his first medal. He defeated Rami Hietaniemi , Finland, at the European Middleweight Championships 2011 in Belgrade , then lost to Christo Marinow , Bulgaria, but then defeated Christian Roed, Denmark, Vladimir Gegeschidze , Georgia and Eerik Aps, Estonia, with which he can call an EM bronze medal his own could. This third place at a European Championship was not enough to qualify for participation in the Olympic Games in London. Unfortunately, he did not achieve this goal in three qualifying tournaments in Sofia, Taiyuan / China and Helsinki, so that he did not start in London.

In 2013 Viktor Lőrincz prevailed against his tough competitor Péter Bácsi in an internal elimination for this year's World Cup in Budapest and was therefore able to start at this championship. He initially defeated Hanssel Argel Salvador Mejia, Mexico, but lost his next fight against Saman Tahmasebi from Azerbaijan. Since this reached the final, he was able to continue in the consolation round, in which he secured a World Cup bronze medal with victories over Eugen Ponomartschuk, Germany, Giorgi Zirekidse, Georgia and Ram Hietaniemi.

After a disappointing 15th place at the 2014 European Championships in Vantaa , where he lost in the first round against Maksim Manukjan from Armenia, Viktor Lőrincz won a bronze medal at this year's World Championships in Tashkent . After a defeat in the semi-finals against Melonin Noumonvi from France, he secured it with a victory over Kristoffer Johansson from Sweden.

At the 2015 World Championships in Las Vegas Viktor Lőrincz came in 5th place and with this place earned the right to start at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . Before that, he started at the European Championships in Riga in March 2016 , where he won two fights, but only came in 7th place after a defeat against Evgeny Saleev from Russia. In Rio de Janeiro he reached the fight for one of the bronze medals, but lost it against Denis Kudla (wrestler) from Germany on points.

In May 2017 Viktor Lőrincz finally won a major international title in Novi Sad . There he was European champion with victories over Julius Matuzevicius, Lithuania, Eerik Aps, Estonia, Nikolai Bajrakow , Bulgaria and Metehan Başar , Turkey. At the World Championships that year in Paris , however, it was not enough for him to win a medal. After victories over Ravinder Chatri, India and Alexander Schischman, Ukraine and a defeat against Hossein Ahmad Nouri , Iran, he came only 8th.

Viktor Lőrincz also did not make it into the medal ranks at the 2018 European Championships in Kaspijsk, where he was the defending champion. He won in Kaspiysk first over Rami Hietaniemi from Finland, but lost in the next fight against Islam Abbasow from Azerbaijan. Since he lost to Denis Kudla in the semifinals, he was eliminated and only came in 10th place.
