Damian Janikowski's international career began in 2004. However, at that time his successes in international championships in the junior area were still limited. The only medal he won while participating in six international junior championships was the bronze at the 2009 World Junior Championships in Ankara in the welterweight division . However, he already showed his great potential that is in him. In 2009 he took part in a senior world championship in Herning / Denmark for the first time . In the middleweight division he came in 8th place after two wins.
At the 2010 European Championships in Baku he defeated the silver medalist from the Olympic Games in Beijing Zoltán Fodor from Hungary in his first fight , but lost his next fight against Anton Babko Maly from Ukraine and therefore only came in 13th place. Things went much better for him at this year's World Cup in Moscow . He lost there after three victorious fights in the quarterfinals against the eventual world champion Christo Marinow from Bulgaria . In the fight for a world championship bronze medal he had to admit defeat to the multiple Russian world champion Alexei Mishin , but still came in 5th place.
In 2011 he took part in the European Championship in Dortmund . There he got three wins, but in the semifinals he lost to Vasyl Ratschyba from Ukraine on points. In the fight for a bronze medal, he had to admit defeat against Christo Marinow and thus again took 5th place. Damian Janikowski then celebrated his greatest success in his career so far at the World Cup in Istanbul . There he defeated Pedro Jacinto Garcia Perez from Spain , Alan Chugajew from Russia , Eerik Aaps from Estonia and the 2009 world champion Nazmi Avluca from Turkey and was in the final battle against the 2005 world champion Alim Selimow from Belarus . This he delivered an even fight, but had to admit defeat with 1: 2 rounds with 3: 3 points (0: 1, 3: 0, 0: 2). He was runner-up in 2011.
Damian Janikowski won a bronze medal at the 2012 Olympic Games in London . He had to fight five fights. He defeated ex-world champion Nazmi Avluca , Turkey, Amer Hrustanovic from Austria , Pablo Enrique Shorey Hernandez , Cuba , then lost to 2004 Olympic champion Karam Ibrahim from Egypt and finally won the bronze medal with a victory over Melonin Noumonvi from France . In 2013 he played American football with the Devils Wrocław . In March 2013 he started at the European Championships in Tbilisi and lost there in the first round against Artur Shahinjan , Armenia, just on points (1: 2 rounds, 6: 6 points). Since Shahinjan did not reach the final, he was eliminated and only came in 15th place. He had more success at the 2013 World Cup in Budapest. He defeated Ilias Bukis, Greece, Eerik Aps, Estonia and Maksim Manukjan, Armenia, then lost to Taleb Nariman Nematpour, the eventual world champion and in the consolation round in the battle for a bronze medal also against Jawid Hamsatow from Belarus. He therefore took 5th place.
At the 2014 European Championships in Vantaa / Finland, in the new weight class up to 85 kg, he immediately managed to take revenge against Jawid Hamsatow, but then lost to Rami Hietaniemi , Finland, but then won with victories over Ahmet Yildirim, Turkey, Jim Eric Pettersson, Sweden, Robert Kobliaschwili, Georgia and Jan Fischer, Germany received a bronze medal.
