The Sejong University is a private university in the South Korean capital Seoul . It was founded in 1940 as Gyeongseong Inmun Hagwon (Gyeongseong Humanities Institute), and lectures have been held since 1948. In 1954 the university changed its name to Sudo Yeoja Sabeom Daehak (Sudo Pedagogical Women's College). Since 1979 men have also been accepted as students. In the same year, the university changed its name to the current form, named after Sejong the Great , the fourth king of the Joseon Dynasty , who is believed to be the father of the Korean Hangul alphabet . In 1987 the university changed its status to a full university under the Korean Higher Education Act. The campus is located in Gunja-dong, Gwangjin-gu, an eastern part of Seoul.
