Wassyl Dmytrowytsch Ratschyba ( Ukrainian Василь Дмитрович Рачиба ; born January 27, 1982 ) is a Ukrainian wrestler . In 2011 he became European middleweight champion in the Greco-Roman style in Dortmund .

Career

Ratschyba started wrestling in 1995 at the age of 13. Nothing is known from his junior years. Officially, he is a member of the Ukrainian army and a member of the central sports club of the CSK Kiev army . Currently only with the wrestling. His trainer is Yuri Chikalenko. With a height of 1.73 meters he wrestled for a long time as an adult in the welterweight division and has been wrestling with the middleweight division since 2008. He is a strong, stocky type and operates exclusively in the Greco-Roman style.

His results from international tournaments have been known since 2001. The best result he achieved at the beginning of his career was a 2nd place at the 2003 Military World Cup in Istanbul , which he finished in welterweight behind Mahmut Altay from Turkey and ahead of Adam Juretzko from Germany . In 2007 he also started at the German Grand Prix in Dortmund and came third in the welterweight division behind Konstantin Schneider from Germany and Christophe Guénot from France .

In 2008 he switched from welterweight to middleweight. This year he succeeded in being used by the Ukrainian Wrestling Federation for the first time at an international championship. He started at the European Championships in Tampere and came in 7th place after victories over Michael Jauch, Switzerland and Denis Nikolajew, Israel and a defeat against Jan Fischer , Germany. After that he was only at the start again at the 2010 World Cup in Moscow . There he came to victories over Rami Hietaniemi from Finland and Ilyas Esenow from Turkmenistan , while he was defeated in the quarter-finals against Nazmi Avluca from Turkey. He was eliminated and finished in 9th place.

At the 2011 European Championships in Dortmund, Ratschyba surprised all competitors and wrestling experts with his good form. There he defeated Marian Mihalik from Slovakia , Artur Omarov from the Czech Republic , the 2010 world champion Christo Marinow from Bulgaria , Damian Janikowski from Poland and in the final Alan Chugajew from Russia and became European champion for the first time at the age of 29 . At this year's World Cup in Istanbul, he was not so successful. He won his first fight there against Jose Antonio Arias Paredes from the Dominican Republic, but then lost to Nazmi Avluca from Turkey. Since this did not reach the final, he was eliminated and only came in 13th place. In spring 2012, he therefore concentrated on qualifying for the Olympic Games in London . He then achieved this with a victory at the tournament in Sofia , which he won ahead of Amer Hrustanovic from Austria , Ara Abrahamian from Sweden and Theodoros Tounisidis from Greece. In London he won his first fight over Haykel Achouri from Tunisia, but then lost to Vladimir Gegeschidze from Georgia. Since this did not reach the final, he was eliminated and came in 8th place.

In September 2013 he also competed at the World Championships in Budapest. He lost his first fight there against Giorgi Zirekidze from Georgia, dropped out and only reached 22nd place.

Of his starts at the Ukrainian championships, only his result is known from the 2011 Ukrainian championship, where he won the middleweight title.
