Volodymyr Wolodymyrowytsch Schazkych ( Ukrainian Володимир Володимирович Шацьких , Russian Владимир Владимирович Шацких , Vladimir Vladimirovich Schazkich ; * 2. July 1981 in Molodohvardiysk , Luhansk Oblast ) is a Ukrainian wrestler . He was world champion 2006 in the Greco-Roman style welterweight.

Career

Volodymyr Schazkych started wrestling as a teenager in 1992. He belongs to the Dynamo Dnipropetrovsk sports club . His trainer is Nikolai Stavrinov. He concentrates entirely on the Greco-Roman style and grew from being lightweight (up to 69 kg or 66 kg body weight) to welter weight (up to 76 kg or 74 kg body weight).

He celebrated a great success when he took part in an international championship for the first time, as he became the lightweight junior world champion in Nantes in 2000 . At the Junior World Championships in Tashkent the following year , he could not repeat this success, because he lost his second fight there, with which he was eliminated and ended up in 13th place.

A certain inconstancy was already evident here, which has characterized Schazkych's entire career. Great successes are followed by very poor results, which, however, were often influenced by the somewhat unfortunate wrestling regulations at the beginning of the 2000s.

In the senior category he achieved his first outstanding result at the 2002 World Cup in Moscow with a 4th place in the welterweight division, even if he narrowly missed a medal. He won at this world championship a. a. via Thomas Curtis Dantzler from the United States and Konstantin Schneider from Germany , while he played against Badri Chassaia from Georgia a . Filiberto Ascuy Aguilera from Cuba lost.

At the European Championships in 2003 in Belgrade, he finished 12th because he lost in his second fight against world champion Alexei Gluschkow from Russia and had to retire. At the 2003 World Championships in Créteil , Schazkych u. a. against Badri Chassaia and Filiberto Ascuy Aguilera, so against the wrestlers against whom he had lost at the 2002 World Cup, but he lost again to Alexei Gluschkow and thus finished 5th.

At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens , he then slipped to 13th place in the welterweight division after losing to Warteres Samurgaschew from Russia , the later Olympic champion and Konstantin Schneider, despite a final victory over Mohammed Reza Babulfath , the Swedish world class wrestler .

In 2005 he only started at the European Championships in Varna. In his first fight, he managed to win over his feared opponent Alexei Gluschkow. But already in the second round he was defeated by Manuchar K Wirkwelia from Georgia with 1: 2 rounds, although at the end of the fight he was 6: 4 techn. Points led. However, only the number of rounds won are decisive for victory or defeat.

At the 2006 European Championships in Moscow Schazkych lost his first fight against Christophe Guénot from France quite clearly with 0: 2 rounds and 1: 7 technical points. But since Guénot did not reach the final, he did not make it into the round of hope and ended up in 17th place. In the same year he achieved the greatest success of his career at the world championships in Guangzhou / China , the former canton, because he became world welterweight champion with five wins. In the decisive fights he defeated Mark Overgaard Madsen from Denmark , Konstantin Schneider and Marko Yli-Hannuksela from Finland, three wrestlers who did not come from the successor states of the former Soviet Union . A one-time, probably non-recurring situation.

At the next two international championships in which Schazkych participated, he was eliminated in the first round with defeats. At the 2007 World Cup in Baku he lost to Thomas Curtis Dantzler on points (1: 2 rounds, 2: 5 technical points) and at the 2008 European Championships in Tampere he lost to Aljaksandr Kikinjou from Belarus also on points (0: 2 rounds, 2: 6 technical points). He only finished 36th and 21st.

In 2008, however, he managed to qualify for the Olympic Games in Beijing at the Olympic qualifying tournament in Novi Sad , where he took 1st place in the welterweight division . In Beijing he lost in his first fight after a balanced course against Arsen Dschulfalakjan from Armenia on points (1: 2 rounds, 3: 3 technical points), which he was eliminated because Dschulfalakjan did not reach the final.

At the 2009 European Championships in Vilnius , Schazkych fought his way to the final with three wins, in which he again lost to Arsen Dschulfalakjan and thus had to be content with 2nd place.
