Matthias Tretzscher

Matthias Tretzscher (born March 23 . Jul / 2. April  1626 greg. In City of Light , Bohemia , † April 9 jul. / 19th April  1686 greg. In Kulmbach ) was a German-Bohemian organ builder.

Life

After the early death of his father Paul Tretscher, who worked as an administrative officer and organist in Lichtenstadt until 1633, he attended elementary school in his hometown. In 1641 his mother married the also widowed mayor and organ builder Jacob Schedlich from neighboring St. Joachimsthal . He learned to play the organ and deepened his skills 1643-1644 with David Schedlich , the brother of his stepfather, in Nuremberg . His stepfather trained him to be an organ builder from October 1644. In 1651 he exulted because of his evangelical faith and accepted the full-time organist position in Marienberg . In 1653 Trezscher was commissioned to build the organ for the town church in Bayreuth . In 1654 he became a citizen in Kulmbach and court organ builder of Margrave Christian von Brandenburg-Bayreuth , in 1674 also councilor in Kulmbach and in 1684 head of church.

Tretzscher is considered the leading organ builder of the 17th century in Franconia .
