Hans Hofner
Hans Hofner (born June 26, 1908 in Bayreuth ; † November 21, 1982 in Hof ) was a home nurse in the Hof district and a local researcher , who wrote numerous articles and books on regional history.
Life
Hofner came from a family of teachers in Bayreuth, his father was a music teacher and enjoyed a thorough education. He used his musical talent part-time as a chamber, orchestra and church musician. He was married to Elfriede, nee Schwingler (born April 2, 1922, † March 24, 1980). As early as the 1930s, Hofner, himself an organist , dealt with the history of organ building in the former Principality of Bayreuth , for example with the organ builder family Heidenreich . He carried out his first research in the Steinach Valley and in the Sechsämterland . In the Bamberg State Archives he conducted extensive research on sources. Among other things, he published his essays in Siebenstern , the members' magazine of the Fichtelgebirgsverein . His local history work was interrupted by military service, where he was deployed as an intelligence officer and radio specialist in the Air Force.
In 1949 Hofner became head of the von Köditz school and concentrated his local history work on the Hofer Land . In addition to local history, especially of places belonging to the former Hauptmannschaft Hof , he also published on the history of handicrafts and art in the region, including the Knoll family of sculptors and the Lohe family of painters . Vogtland manors also led him to a dispute with the early aristocratic families in the region, including the Murring , Uttenhofen , Weißelsdorf and Hirschberg . Prehistory and early history, as well as landscape and settlement history, were among his research areas. In 1973 he retired. In addition to his position as headmaster of Köditz, he was a part-time teacher at the Hof vocational school. He gained fame through his 320 publications, including publicity in Der Erzähler an der Saale and in Hofer Anzeiger, as well as through numerous lectures. Articles by him were regularly published in the Kulturwarte series and articles were written about him at anniversaries. He was home curator and archive curator in the district of Hof, elected member of the Society for Franconian History, employee at the State Office for Monument Preservation , the State Coin Collection and the North Franconian home magazines.
