The city ​​archive in Hof , an independent city in the northeast of the Bavarian administrative district of Upper Franconia , was set up in 1931. The Stadtarchiv Hof is the responsible final archive for the city of Hof and also collects historically relevant documents on the Hof district , which encompasses the city area.

history

The city archive was initially under the part-time management of a doctorate historian, who was a full-time religion teacher. The archive currently employs four people, two of whom are specialist archivists in the higher or middle archiving service.

Archives holdings

In addition to the levies from the city administration, the files include collections from numerous associations and other organizations, private individuals and families as well as companies from Hof ​​and the surrounding area. The archives of the von Waldenfels aristocratic family deserve special mention among the older holdings . Small collections on the writer Jean Paul and the painter Johann Christian Reinhart are also available.

Library

The library consists of the council library built in the 18th century with around 5,000 titles from the 15th to 18th centuries and the service library with the younger titles. The archive collects as completely as possible all printed publications from and about the Hof region. In addition, numerous magazines and series from the German-speaking area from the barter of the North Upper Franconian Association for Nature, History and Regional Studies are included in the library. A newspaper archive for East Upper Franconia and neighboring areas is located on more than 4000 microfilms .
