Archive for the history of Upper Franconia
The Archive for the History of Upper Franconia is the annual publication of the Historical Association for Upper Franconia , based in Bayreuth , which has been published since 1828 immediately after the association was founded .
Emergence
The Historical Society for Upper Franconia was founded in 1827, making it the oldest Bavarian historical society. The founding members Erhardt Christian von Hagen and Theodor Dorfmüller were the editors of the first writings.
The annual volumes have had different titles over the years:
- 1828–1830 Archive for Bayreuth History and Archeology
- 1831–1836 Archive for the History and Antiquity of the Upper Main District
- 1838–1941 Archive for the History and Antiquity of Upper Franconia
- 1942–1949 News from the Association for the History of Upper Franconia
- Since 1949 archive for the history of Upper Franconia
While today's annual volumes appear in bound form and in considerable volume, the series began as a series of issues in which three issues formed one volume. Due to the war or a lack of paper, reduced or no editions were published in a few years.
