Karl Dietel (born February 27, 1912 ; † March 18, 1996 in Münchberg ) was a German district home nurse of the Münchberg district , chronicler and local researcher in the Fichtel Mountains .

Life

On October 1, 1948, Karl Dietel was transferred to Münchberg as station master and from then on concentrated his research entirely on this area. From 1952 he was a volunteer at the State Office for Monument Preservation in Franconia . He died at the age of 84 on March 18, 1996.

Excavations on the Waldstein

From 1960 to 1974 he researched the eastern castle on the Großer Waldstein and was able to correct the opinion of his predecessors, such as Ludwig Zapf , through systematic excavations and to establish a scientific foundation for further research on the Waldstein. He described the excavations near the east castle in detail in a work and prepared site plans for the remains of the wall, including an initial date of the building fabric, which is almost entirely overgrown today.

Literary work

His work deals primarily with the history of castles and settlements in the area of ​​the former Münchberg district and in the Hofer area, e.g. B. Münchberg , Schweinsbach , Sparneck (with monastery and gender of the same name ), Uprode , Waldstein with bear catch . His descriptive essays and books, which are not only aimed at specialists, are characterized by careful study of sources and, in some cases, first-time observations and measurements on site. He has helped popularize local history locally. He submitted a total of 250 publications.
