Weißelsdorf

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The von Weißelsdorf family was an early knight dynasty in the Hof area .

history

The history of the von Weißelsdorf family in the Hof area goes back to the time when the city of Hof was founded . Like the Feilitzsch , Murring or Rabensteiner families, they were represented with a knight's seat within the courtyard wall from the first half of the 13th century. In the history of the town of Naila , the Weißelsdorf can be found in the first mention of the place as fiefs of the bailiffs of Weida . They were also mentioned in other villages to the northwest of Hof, including when Köditz was first mentioned in 1359. In 1438 the Weißelsdorfers appeared for the last time in a feud with Heinrich von Witzleben .

The genealogist Alban von Dorbenck assumed a tribal relationship between the Weißelsdorfers and the von Sparneck family and has compiled documentary mentions in this context, without however being able to sketch any more precise family connections with one another or with von Sparneck's. He names nine family members from 1257 to 1379, including Kunz von Weißelsdorf as Vogt in Sparneck and later Spitalmeister in Hof, Kunrad as Hofer pastor and an unspecified woman from Weißelsdorf in the Hof monastery . In the search for further distribution and the perhaps eponymous headquarters, Hans Hofner was able to exclude the location Weißendorf , as the archives there do not provide any information about the family. A Silesian von Weißdorf family in the Brieg area has a lion walking upright to the right with raised paws as its coat of arms.

Community coat of arms of Weißdorf

The fact that the Weißelsdorfers were mostly resident in Hof and in the area to the north-west of it and that similarities with the similarly sounding town of Weißdorf can almost be ruled out due to the ownership structure speaks against a relationship between the Weißelsdorfers and the Sparneckers . Nevertheless, due to the assumed relationships, the coat of arms of the community Weißdorf reminds of the gender.

coat of arms

The coat of arms of the von Weißelsdorf family is passed down through several seals. A structure in the form of a pretzel can be seen either as a helmet ornament or as a coat of arms motif . For a short time, a von Buester family appeared in the region who had an identical coat of arms and is therefore assumed to be related to the tribe. The current municipal coat of arms of Weißdorf is a similarly shaped silver band on a red background.
