Kurt Neheimer
Kurt Neheimer (born May 14, 1924 in Siegen , † October 14, 1995 in Berlin ) was a German journalist and SED functionary.
Life
Kurt Neheimer was one of Sigmund Neheimer's two sons from a German-Jewish merchant family that had lived in Siegen in the 1870s and his second wife, Selma. He trained as a gardener and a carpenter. In order to avoid persecution as a Jew, he fled the National Socialist German Reich to Palestine to his half-brother Heinz. He joined an infantry unit of the 8th British Army in Palestine (1943–1946).
After the end of National Socialism, he returned to Germany in 1946 and settled in the Soviet Zone . He joined the FDJ and the SED and initially worked with the establishment of the socialist legal system. Kurt Neheimer was among other things a member of the SED district management in Schwerin, deputy editor-in-chief of the Märkische Volksstimme , editor-in-chief of the Schweriner Volkszeitung (1960–1967) and finally editor-in-chief of the Wochenpost (1967–1983).
