The Bamberg State Archive is the Bavarian State Archive responsible for the Upper Franconia administrative region (with the exception of the independent city of Coburg and the Coburg district ) .
Stocks
The holdings of the Bamberg State Archives include:
- the territories in the eastern part of the former Franconian Empire , in particular the bishopric and cathedral chapter of Bamberg and the margraviate of Brandenburg-Kulmbach-Bayreuth ;
- State central and subordinate authorities as well as courts in the administrative region of Upper Franconia from the beginning of the 19th century.
As the archive of the former Duchy of Saxony-Coburg and Gotha , the Coburg State Archives are responsible for the independent city and the district of Coburg .
The size of the Bamberg State Archives is around 22,600 running meters. with approx. 2.3 million archival items (as of January 2013).
The official library comprises around 20,000 volumes and offprints, including an incunabula, around 400 prints before 1800 and around 6,000 prints from the 19th century.
