Jacob Schedlich
Jacob Schedlich (* March 1591 in St. Joachimsthal , Bohemia ; † December 29, 1669 there ) was a German- Bohemian organ builder of the 17th century.
Life
Jacob Schedlich was born in early March 1591 as the son of St. Joachimthaler hospital master and later mayor Andreas Schedlich (1556-1616) and his wife Magdalena lineysen (* 1564, daughter of Hans Z., St. Joachimsthal), who was married on December 10, 1584 on Sunday Reminiscere , then March 10th, baptized. His brother David (1607–1687) was a well-known composer .
After receiving training in organ playing and adjusting and rectifying clocks from the Nuremberg composer Hans Leo Haßler , he was instructed in 1607 as organist, schoolmaster and cantor in his hometown of St. Joachimsthal. In addition, he was given the task of maintaining the clocks in the parish church and the bread market. During this time he appeared to a small extent as a composer. A Magnificat et intonationes precum vespertinatum 4V was published in 1613 . , next to it a handwritten Missa brevis and a canon have survived.
In 1619 he was appointed a member of the city council, where he took care of orphans' affairs. In 1624 he became an inspector and tax collector. In 1625 he resigned from the office of organist that had previously been entrusted to him for 18 years. In 1633 he was first elected mayor, which office he held for 36 years. Schedlich was buried in the town church of his hometown.
Schedlich was a well-known organ builder in the Erzgebirge region, where a large part of his work can be proven. Its catchment area extends into Vogtland and Thuringia. Schedlich was the stepfather and teacher of the Kulmbach organ builder Matthias Tretzscher .
