from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Badri Chassaia ( Georgian ბადრი ხასაია ; born September 24, 1979 in Kutaisi ) is a Georgian wrestler . He became European welterweight champion in 2002 in the Greco-Roman style .

Life

Badri Chassaia began wrestling as a teenager in 1988. He focuses entirely on the Greco-Roman style. The 1.80 meter tall athlete belongs to the Dinamo Tiflis sports club and is trained there by Damerlan Davidaja.

Badri Chassaia was already very successful as a junior. In his first participation in an international championship, the Junior World Cadet Championship in 1995, he won the silver medal behind Max Schwindt from Germany in the weight class up to 60 kg . He won another medal at the Junior World Championship (Juniors) in Cairo in 1998 , where he reached 3rd place in the weight class up to 70 kg body weight. It was enough for him to win the title in 1999, when he took 1st place at the European Junior Championships in Budapest in the weight class up to 76 kg in front of Peter Szabo from Hungary and Yusuf Düzer from Turkey .

In the senior Badri Chassaia immediately began with a bang, as he was in his first participation in an international senior championships in 2002 in Seinäjoki / Finland equal European champions in the welterweight division. In doing so he defeated u. a. with Reza Mohamed Babulfath from Sweden , Roustam Adzhi , Ukraine and Warteres Samurgaschew from Russia, three world class wrestlers. A few months later at the World Championships in Moscow , where he a. a. Marko Yli-Hannuksela from Finland and Wolodymyr Schazkych from Ukraine and thus faced Warteres Samurgaschew again in the fight for the world championship title. Samurgaschew was able to turn the tables compared to the European Championships in 2002 and defeated Badri Chassaia on points. This made Samurgaschew world champion and Chassaia vice world champion.

In 2003 Badri Chassaia could not repeat these successes. He lost to Marko Yli-Hannuksela at the European Championships that year in Belgrade and to Wolodymyr Schazkych at the World Championships in Créteil . Since these wrestlers did not reach the finals, he was eliminated early and finished 10th and 13th respectively.

The year 2004 was also a bitter disappointment for Badri Chassaia, because he was unable to participate in the Olympic Games in Athens at tournaments in Novi Sad , where he came in 16th place, and in Tashkent , where he came in 5th place to qualify.

From the failures of 2003 and 2004, he then drew the consequences and switched to the middleweight class (weight class up to 84 kg body weight) in order to avoid constant training. This measure then showed success at the 2005 European Championships in Varna , because he won a bronze medal there. After losing to Alexei Mishin from Russia, he won this medal by defeating Sandor Istvan Bardosi from Hungary . At the 2005 World Cup in Budapest , he disappointed again, because after a win in the first round over Mélonin Noumonvi from France , he lost his next fight against the largely unknown Japanese Shingo Matsumoto, with which he was eliminated and only finished 18th.

In 2006 Badri Chassaia only started at the World Championships in Guangzhou (Canton) and delivered good fights there. After three victories, however, he failed to Mohamad Abd El Fatah from Egypt and Alexei Mishin and came in 5th place.

After a 14th place at the 2007 European Championships in Sofia , where he was thrown out of the race early by Nazmi Avluca , Turkey , he won a medal again at the World Championships that year in Baku . After a defeat in the third fight against Alexei Mishin, he still needed three victories over the world-class athletes Vyacheslav Subaryev from Kazakhstan , Nazmi Avluca and Ara Abrahamian , Sweden .

In 2008 Badri Chassaia won the European Championships in Tampere a . a. with victories over Andrea Minguzzi , Italy and Jan Fischer , Germany after a defeat in the final battle against Nazmi Avluca, 2nd place and qualified for participation in the Olympic Games in Beijing . There he met Nazmi Avluca again in the first round and was defeated by this on points (1: 5 technical points, 0: 2 rounds). Since Avluca did not reach the final, the Olympic tournament was over for Badri Chassaia with this defeat. Only the 16th place remained for him.

The last start of Badri Chassaia so far took place at the 2009 World Cup in Herning / Denmark . Here he lost after two victorious fights against Mélonin Noumonvi from France and failed in the fight for the world championship bronze medal to Habibollah Akhlaghi from Iran .
