Denis Forow (born December 3, 1984 in Schmerynka ) is an Armenian wrestler who also competed for Ukraine and Russia . In 2005 he was Vice European Champion in the Greco-Roman style middleweight division.

Life

Denis Forow began his international wrestling career at the age of 16 in 2001. He has been wrestling since 1994, exclusively in the Greco-Roman style, and is coached by Vladimir Borisovich Ugruimagow. In 2001, starting for the Ukraine , he finished 3rd at the Junior European Championship (Cadets) in Izmir behind Gennadi Gagishvili from Georgia and Bernhard Mayr from Germany .

At the junior European championship in 2002 in Subotica he was then at the start for Russia and won the welterweight title of European champion there. In 2003 he was able to increase this success, because he also became junior world champion in the middleweight division in Istanbul in 2003 , starting again for Russia. In the decisive battles he defeated Yanarbek Kenajew from Kyrgyzstan and Balasz Kiss from Hungary .

So, although he was very successful as a junior, the transition to senior citizens was not a smooth one. But that was mainly due to the fact that he had extremely strong competition in his weight class in Russia. He saw no chance in Russia to continue his international career, because there world champion Alexei Mishin dominated the wrestling event. For this reason, he decided to start in 2006 for Armenia . So this is already the third country for which he is starting his young career. Somewhat incomprehensible that the international wrestling federation (FILA) allows this so easily, because even an ambitious young athlete should not be able to change his nationality like his shirt.

At the 2006 European Championships in Moscow , Denis Forow got off to a good start for Armenia, as he became vice European champion in the middleweight division . With Melonin Noumonvi from France , Fritz Aanes from Norway , Sandor Istvan Bardosi from Hungary and Bernhard Mayr, he defeated four very strong wrestlers before losing to Artur Michalkiewicz on points in the final .

In 2007 Denis Forow got to know the pitfalls of the new FILA regulations to his disadvantage at the European Championships in Sofia , because he was defeated in his first fight against the Georgian Badri Chassaia after a hard fight just on points. Both wrestlers scored two technical points in this fight. But Chassaia won 2-1 rounds. Since he did not reach the final, Forow was eliminated and only reached 22nd place. According to the old regulations he could even have become European champion with a defeat.

At the 2007 World Cup in Baku he won the middleweight division over Vojtech Kukta from the Czech Republic and Jonathan Rioux, Canada , but retired after a loss to Zoltán Fodor , Hungary , and finished in 14th place. In 2008 he was able to qualify for the Olympic Games in Beijing at a tournament in Novi Sad with a third place behind Schalwa Gabadadze, Azerbaijan and Attila Bátky from Slovakia . In Beijing he showed good fights. He won there in the middleweight division against the Japanese Shingo Matsumoto and the US vice-world champion from 2007 Bradley Vering and was defeated in the quarter-finals against the multiple Swedish world champion Ara Abrahamian just by points (3: 5 technical points and 1: 2 rounds) . So there was a Russian starting for Armenia and an Armenian starting for Sweden. Forow ended up in 7th place.
