Mélonin Noumonvi
Mélonin Noumonvi (born October 10, 1982 in Paris ) is a French wrestler . He was vice world champion in 2009 and world champion in Greco-Roman style in middleweight in 2014.
Career
Mélonin Noumonvi, called "Mélo", is the son of African immigrants to France . He started wrestling in 1989 at the age of 7 and is a member of the Bagnolet wrestling club near Paris . During his international career, which has been going on since 1998, he has been trained by Didier Duceux, Franck Abrial, Jean-Marc Carday and Patrice Mourier . He wrestles exclusively in the Greco-Roman style and weighs about 90 kg as an adult with a height of 1.85 meters, trained for the competitions in the middleweight (up to 84 kg body weight). He is also known in Germany because he wrestles for KSV Köllerbach in the Bundesliga .
Mélonin Noumonvi first took part in an international championship, the Junior World Cadet Championship in Pretoria , in 1998 . There he took 4th place in the weight class up to 76 kg body weight. He reached fourth places at the 2001 World Junior Championships in Tashkent and at the 2002 Junior European Championships in Subotica , both in the middleweight division.
In 2002 he also started for the first time at the European Senior Championship. In Seinäjoki / Finland he came here in the middleweight division with a victory over Filip Soukop, Czech Republic and a defeat against Sandor Istvan Bardosi from Hungary in 14th place. Until 2005 Mélonin Noumonvi did not succeed in winning a medal at the international championships. The best result he achieved in those years was 9th place at the 2003 World Cup in Créteil .
2006 Mélonin Noumonvi won an EM bronze medal in the middleweight division at the European Championships in Moscow . It was his first medal at an international senior championship. He fought for this by winning the battle for 3rd place over Bernhard Mayr , Germany . At the 2006 World Cup in Guangzhou / China he retired after defeating Oleksandr Darahan from Ukraine after a defeat against the 2004 Olympic champion Alexei Mishin from Russia and only came in 19th place.
In 2007 he again won a bronze medal at the European Championships in Sofia . He won there over Pawel Daniel Burla from Romania , Vitali Lishchinksi, Ukraine, Goran Bojanic, Serbia and Artur Michalkiewicz , Poland and lost again to Alexei Mishin. At the 2007 World Cup in Baku , however, he retired after a victory over Dante Harebashvili, Greece because of a defeat against Yunior Estrada Falcon from Cuba after the 2nd round and landed again on 19th place.
At the European Championships in Tampere in 2008 Mélonin Noumonvi retired after two wins with a defeat against the multiple world champion Ara Abrahamian from Sweden after the third round and only came in 10th place. At the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing , for which he had qualified by winning the qualifying tournament in Rome , he then caused a sensation. He lost his first fight there against the Italian Andrea Minguzzi with 0: 2 rounds with 2: 2 points, with Minguzzi winning each of the two rounds only by the last standings. At that time, nobody knew that Minuzzi would become Olympic champion . Minguzzi owed a large part of this Olympic victory to Mélonin Noumonvi, who defeated the Olympic champion Alexei Mischin in his next fight with 2: 1 laps and 2: 5 technical points and threw him out of the race. He won two rounds each with 1-0 points and lost one round with 0-5 points. After this fight, Ara Abrahamian, the next opponent of Mélonin Noumonvi, prevented his medal win, because he beat it with 2: 0 rounds and 4: 0 points. Mélonin Noumonvi came in 5th place.
In 2009 he finished 7th at the European Championships in Vilnius with victories over Pedro Yacinto Garcia Perez from Spain and Denis Forow from Armenia and a somewhat surprising defeat against Shalva Gabaradze from Azerbaijan . However, he was able to celebrate the greatest success of his career at the 2009 World Championships in Herning / Denmark when he was in the final of this championship after victories over Yerbol Raimbekow, Kazakhstan , Bolat Abdullajew, Ukraine, Badri Chassaia , Georgia and Habibollah Akhlagi, Iran but he had no chance against the experienced Nazmi Avluca from Turkey in the defeat with 0: 2 rounds with 0: 4 points. But at least he was vice world champion .
At the 2010 European Championships in Baku , Mélonin Noumonvi won a bronze medal together with Jan Fischer from Germany , which he won with a victory over Nenad Žugaj from Croatia . Before that he had lost again to Nazmi Avluca . At the 2010 World Cup in Moscow, he lost his first fight against Theodoros Tounousidis from Greece and retired very early because he did not reach the final. He only came in 24th place.
Melonin Noumonvi was also unable to place in the front field at the 2011 World Cup in Istanbul and the 2012 European Championship in Belgrade. However, he managed to qualify for the 2012 Olympic Games in London at a tournament in Taiyuan / China. In London he won the middleweight division over Rami Hietaniemi , Finland, then lost to the 2004 Olympic champion Karam Mohamed Gaber Ibragim from Egypt, then defeated Nenad Žugaj from Croatia and was defeated in the battle for a bronze medal against Damian Janikowski from Poland.
In 2013 he moved from middleweight to light heavyweight. At this year's European Championships in Tbilisi, he immediately won a bronze medal in this weight class. On the way to this medal he defeated Robert Awanesjan, Israel, lost to Wladislaw Metodiew , Bulgaria and then defeated Dajan Franjkovic, Serbia and Felix Radinger , Germany. He also showed good fights at the 2013 World Cup in Budapest. He first won over Konstantinos Vourdanos, Greece, then lost to Nikita Melnikow from Russia, won over Daigoro Timoncini, Italy and lost to Timo Antero Kallio from Finland. With these results he finished 9th. He also started in April 2014 at the European Light Heavyweight Championships in Vantaa / Finland, where he won over Robert Awenesjan and the ex-world champion Balasz Kiss from Hungary, then lost to Cenk İldem from Turkey and was also defeated in the battle for one of the bronze medals against Fredrik Nice from Sweden. At the 2014 World Championships in Tashkent, he surprisingly wrestled again in the middleweight division and sensationally won the world championship title there at an advanced wrestling age of 32 years. In the final he defeated the vice world champion of 2013 Saman Tahmasebi from Azerbaijan.
