history
Until the church is planted
Benningen, first mentioned in a document in 1152, but already mentioned in a chronicle in 961, belonged to the Ottobeuren imperial monastery . Since the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss of 1803 the place belongs to Bavaria. In the course of the administrative reforms in the Kingdom of Bavaria , today's municipality was created with the municipal edict of 1818 .

coat of arms
The coat of arms was approved by the government of Swabia on July 4, 1975.
Blazon : “Split by black and silver; in front a growing golden abbot, behind three green sedge carnations with red flowers growing from a stick. "
The abbot symbolizes that the place belonged to the old property of the imperial monastery of Ottobeuren up to secularization. The gold-black color scheme in the front half of the shield also refers to this, based on the Ottobeurer convent coat of arms. The sedge carnations indicate the occurrence of this otherwise rare plant in the Benninger Ried nature reserve .
The design of the coat of arms comes from the monastery archivist and district home administrator Aegidius Kolb, and the design was done by Ewald Kühlinger from Balgheim.
flag
The flag is yellow - black - white (1: 1: 1) striped; it can also be carried with the municipal coat of arms on it.
Attractions
The parish church of St. Peter and Paul with baroque furnishings, which was built by Simpert Kraemer from 1725 to 1729, is one of the local attractions .
The reed chapel was built because of the Benninger Host miracle .
The Benninger Ried nature reserve - the only place in the world where the sedge carnation grows - is the town's largest attraction in terms of area.
