coat of arms
The coat of arms was approved on April 17, 1963 by decision of the Bavarian State Ministry of the Interior.
Blazon : "In red two diagonally crossed, leafed silver cattails, on top of a left-turning, growing, upright golden abbot's staff."
Since the district belonged to the territory of the imperial abbey Ottobeuren of the Benedictine order until 1802, the abbot's staff was chosen as a symbol. The colors silver and red also indicate the Reichsstift. The bulrushes, on the other hand, are linked to the basic word "-rieden" of the municipality name, which represents the location of the place on the reed. The cob reed is a plant characteristic of the stagnant waters of the reed and has therefore always been used as a relevant motif in heraldic art.
The design of the coat of arms comes from the monastery archivist and district home administrator Aegidius Kolb, the design was done by Rudolf Mussgnug from Nördlingen.
