Regional planning

As the responsible body for regional planning in the Danube-Iller region, the Danube-Iller Regional Association was set up as a public corporation on January 1, 1973 by a state treaty between the states of Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria on the basis of corresponding state laws . It was the first transnational association of its kind in Germany and as such is still one of a total of 12 regions / regional associations in Baden-Württemberg and 18 regional planning associations in Bavaria. (Since January 1, 2006, the Rhein-Neckar Region Association has also been a cross-border association). The district administrators of the member circles and the two mayors of Ulm and Memmingen as well as the mayors of the cities in the region are automatically members of the association assembly. The seat of the regional association Donau-Iller and the office are in Ulm .

A key instrument of regional planning is the regional plan, which contains a medium-term development concept and guidelines for future spatial development for the Danube-Iller region. The goals of spatial development are set out in a legally binding manner, for example through the designation of priority and reservation areas. The regional plan is updated at longer intervals. The 2019 draft is currently in the consultation phase.

Spatial planning (Baden-Württemberg)

In the Baden-Württemberg part of the region, Ulm (together with Neu-Ulm ) forms a regional center . There are the following middle areas :

Spatial planning (Bavaria)

In the Bavarian part of the region, in addition to the dual center Ulm / Neu-Ulm, there are further regional centers Memmingen and Günzburg / Leipheim . There are also the following medium-sized centers , which are no longer explicitly allocated in the Bavarian state development program :
