Würzburg planning region

The Würzburg planning region is one of a total of 18 planning regions in the Free State of Bavaria .

The Würzburg planning region is located in northwest Bavaria and forms the core of the Bavarian administrative district of Lower Franconia. The following bodies are united in the regional planning association: the independent city of Würzburg , the districts of Kitzingen , Main-Spessart and Würzburg as well as the associated district communities.

The following central locations existed in the planning region until 2018: The main center is the university town of Würzburg with around 127,000 inhabitants. Associated medium-sized centers are Kitzingen , Karlstadt , Lohr am Main , Marktheidenfeld and Ochsenfurt .

In 2018, Würzburg was upgraded to a regional center . With Gemünden am Main and Volkach , two additional medium-sized centers were created.

In 2007, around 515,734 inhabitants lived in the region on an area of ​​3,062 km².

history

In 1972 the Free State of Bavaria was divided into 18 planning regions on the basis of the Bavarian State Planning Act of 1970. The Regional Planning Association was established on April 18, 1973. The current association chairman is Thomas Schiebel, District Administrator of the Main-Spessart district.
