Augsburg planning region

The Augsburg planning region is one of a total of 18 planning regions in the Free State of Bavaria .

The planning region Augsburg is located in the northern part of the administrative region of Swabia. The following bodies are united in the regional planning association : the independent city of Augsburg , the districts of Aichach-Friedberg , Augsburg , Dillingen adDonau and Donau-Ries as well as the associated district communities.

Around 885,000 inhabitants live in the region on an area of ​​4,066 km², who are strongly oriented towards the regional center of Augsburg with around 290,000 inhabitants. Associated middle areas are Aichach , Augsburg, Dillingen an der Donau / Lauingen (Danube) / Höchstädt an der Donau , Donauwörth , Friedberg , Nördlingen and Schwabmünchen .

The Augsburg agglomeration is part of the planning region, but only includes the densely populated urban region of Augsburg and the direct suburbs.

history

In 1972 the Free State of Bavaria was divided into 18 planning regions on the basis of the Bavarian State Planning Act of 1970. The Regional Planning Association was established in 1973. The current association chairman is Klaus Metzger , District Administrator of the Aichach-Friedberg district .
