Danube Forest planning region
The Danube Forest planning region is one of a total of 18 planning regions in the Free State of Bavaria .

The planning region is in the east of Bavaria on the border with Bohemia and Upper Austria . The following bodies are united in the regional planning association : The two independent cities of Passau and Straubing and the five districts of Deggendorf , Freyung-Grafenau , Passau , Regen and Straubing-Bogen, as well as the associated district communities.
Around 660,000 people live in the region on an area of 5,690 km². Regional centers of the region are Deggendorf / Plattling (common top center), Passau and Straubing . Associated middle areas are Bad Griesbach im Rottal , Bogen , Freyung , Grafenau , Pocking / Ruhstorf an der Rott , Regen / Zwiesel , Viechtach and Vilshofen an der Donau .
history
In 1972 the Free State of Bavaria was divided into 18 planning regions on the basis of the Bavarian State Planning Act of 1970. The Regional Planning Association was established in 1973. With the fall of the Iron Curtain and the expansion of the European Union , the region on the border regained greater importance. The current chairman of the association is Josef Laumer , district administrator of the Straubing-Bogen district.
