Allgäu planning region

The Allgäu planning region is one of a total of 18 planning regions in the Free State of Bavaria with around 483,600 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2016).

The planning region essentially comprises the Bavarian section of the Allgäu and lies in the south of the administrative district of Swabia . Over 80% of the overnight stays in the district are in the Allgäu planning region.

Members of the regional planning association Allgäu are the independent cities of Kempten and Kaufbeuren as well as the districts of Oberallgäu , Lindau and Ostallgäu and their communities.

Upper centers of the region are Kempten , Kaufbeuren , Lindau (/ Bregenz) and Sonthofen / Immenstadt im Allgäu , middle centers are Buchloe , Füssen , Lindenberg im Allgäu , Marktoberdorf and Oberstdorf .

history

In 1972 the Free State of Bavaria was divided into 18 planning regions on the basis of the Bavarian State Planning Act of 1970. The Regional Planning Association was created on April 1, 1973. The office, which was originally located in the city of Kempten , has been located in the city of Kaufbeuren since 2010 . The current chairman of the association is the Lord Mayor of Kaufbeuren, Stefan Bosse .
