Oberland planning region

The Oberland planning region is one of a total of 18 planning regions in the Free State of Bavaria .

The Oberland planning region is located in southern Bavaria in the central part of the Bavarian Alpine region on the border with Austria. The following bodies are united in the regional planning association : the four districts of Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen , Garmisch-Partenkirchen , Miesbach and Weilheim-Schongau as well as the associated district communities.

Around 431,000 people live in the region on an area of ​​3,953 km². Associated medium-sized centers are Bad Tölz , Garmisch-Partenkirchen , Miesbach / Hausham , Murnau am Staffelsee , Penzberg , Schongau / Peiting , Tegernsee / Rottach-Egern / Bad Wiessee / Gmund am Tegernsee and Wolfratshausen / Geretsried . The associated regional center is Weilheim in Upper Bavaria .

In 1972 the Free State of Bavaria was divided into 18 planning regions on the basis of the Bavarian State Planning Act of 1970. The Regional Planning Association was established in 1973. The current association chairman is Josef Niedermaier , District Administrator of the Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen district.
