Lauben is a municipality in the Swabian district of Unterallgäu and a member of the Erkheim administrative community .

Lauben is located about ten kilometers northeast of Memmingen in the Donau-Iller region in Central Swabia .

climate

The annual precipitation is 948 mm and is therefore comparatively high as it falls in the upper quarter of the values ​​recorded in Germany. history

Story arbors

According to the founding document of the Ochsenhausen monastery, Lauben was first mentioned in a document on December 31, 1099 under the name Loba . The street layout of the town center suggests, however, that there was a settlement in Lauben much earlier.
The Laub'ner knight family, once one of the most powerful in our area, died out in 1383. After several changes of lord, the village was sold in 1383 to the Memmingen citizen Nikolaus Tagbrecht. With that, Lauben belonged to the territory of the imperial city of Memmingen. In 1399 Nikolaus Tagbrecht donated the entire place with all goods and serfs to the Dreikönigskapellenstiftung in Memmingen.
In the course of the Reformation, Lauben therefore became Protestant, surrounded by neighboring Catholic communities. The typical rural village had its own handicraft businesses, which at the same time operated their agriculture.
Since the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss of 1803 the place belongs to Bavaria.

History of Frickenhausen

Frickenhausen originated in the 8th century and was first mentioned in a document in 1167. After frequent changes of ownership, the village came into the hands of the Memmingen patrician Erhard Vöhlin in 1460 . In 1480 the Vöhlin family built their country castle in Frickenhausen, which was used as a parsonage from 1789. In 1520 the imperial city of Memmingen bought the whole place. In 1547 the city handed over the entire property to the Unterhospital in Memmingen.

On May 1, 1978 Frickenhausen was incorporated into Lauben.

Mayor has been Reiner Rössle since May 1, 2014; he was re-elected on March 15, 2020 with 96.8% of the vote. The community essentially consists of the two parish villages Lauben and Frickenhausen. Lauben was sold in 1383 by Nikolaus Tagbrecht, a wealthy citizen of Memmingen, and given to the Epiphany Chapel (with poor relief) in Memmingen, which he donated. Frickenhausen was acquired in 1520 by the imperial city of Memmingen, which sold it on to the Unterhospital in 1547. The coat of arms of Lauben combines the coat of arms of the Tagbrecht (Sechsberg and Stern) with the coat of arms of the Vöhlin (bar with the three capital letters "P").
