coat of arms
Blazon : "In blue a continuous silver abbot's staff, on top of which a continuous golden triangle and below a narrow silver wave bar are placed."
The coat of arms was approved by the Bavarian State Ministry of the Interior on September 16, 1963. |
|
The coat of arms symbolizes the local history, which is characterized by the fact that the municipality belongs to the domain of the Ottobeuren monastery; this is indicated by the silver abbot's staff. The golden triangle is part of the coat of arms of the theologian Johannes Maier gen. Eck (1486–1543), who, like his half-brother Simon Thaddäus Maier gen. Eck (around 1514–1574), was Bavarian Chancellor and played an important role in the Reformation and Counter-Reformation intellectual and political life of Bavaria. The golden triangle ("corner stone"), as a so-called speaking part of the coat of arms, keeps alive the memory of the most famous sons of the community, who attached themselves to the community names as family names. Finally, the silver wavy bar in the base of the shield represents the location of the municipality on the Günz and thus documents the name Egg an der Günz.
The design of the coat of arms comes from the monastery archivist and district home administrator Aegidius Kolb, and the design was carried out by Rudolf Mussgnug from Nördlingen.
