Blazon : “Split between gold and black; in front a silver dove floating above a red Maltese cross with two transverse arms, behind a golden rosette. "

The Ottobeuren Benedictine Abbey, which had had goods in Westerheim since 1213 at the latest, and which had previously belonged to the Ochsenhausen Monastery in the 15th century, was particularly decisive for the town's past. In addition, the court at Unterwesterheim was bought in 1451 with Zwing, Bann and Taferne; Until the secularization in 1803, the districts of Oberwesterheim and Unterwesterheim remained with the Ottobeuren monastery, which was directly part of the empire. Besides him, the upper hospital of the Kreuzherren at Memmingen in Westerheim became of great importance from 1364. At that time it acquired Vogtrecht and feudal lordship and finally also received the incorporation of the parish church in Unterwesterheim. Spiritual members of the upper hospital took care of the parish from 1464; a change in these conditions did not occur until the secularization of 1803. In view of these historical circumstances, the red double cross floating above the Holy Spirit dove for the Holy Spirit, the upper hospital of the Kreuzherren in Memmingen as the patronage and church rule and the golden rosette from the convent coat of arms of the Benedictine monastery Ottobeuren as the basic and State rule added.

The design comes from Memminger Walter Braun and the design was done by Emil Werz from Munich.
