Günz is a district of the municipality of Westerheim in the Unterallgäu district in Bavaria and is located on the Günz river of the same name .

location

Günz is located about 13 kilometers east of Memmingen in Upper Swabia in the Danube-Iller region .

history

The Ottobeuren monastery in the village of Günz was already wealthy in the 12th century . In addition, the diocese of Augsburg was the landlord in Günz in the Middle Ages. Most of the sovereign rights in Günz were in the hands of Ottobeuren until 1380, then in those of the citizens and institutions of the imperial city of Memmingen . In 1468 the village came back to Ottobeuren.

In the early modern period Günz belonged to the state of the Ottobeuren monastery until the secularization at the beginning of the 19th century and was thus part of the Swabian district . Günz was one of the 18 villages in Ottobeuren. A farm was part of the Mindelheim rule .

At the beginning of the 19th century, Günz was incorporated together with the Ottobeurian territory of Bavaria. There it formed an independent parish and had the status of a parish village . The neighboring village of Rummeltshausen was part of the community .

On May 1, 1978 the community of Günz was incorporated into the community of Westerheim.
