history

The planning for a new church in Benningen began as early as 1725. Simpert Kraemer made a crack for the new church for the Ottobeurer abbot Rupert Ness . In the years 1726 to 1729 the nave , the choir and the sacristy were rebuilt. The church tower from the Middle Ages was taken over.

Building description

The east- facing church with a round choir closure is on the main street. The nave is a hall building with four window axes. Both the nave and the choir have a barrel vault with stitch caps . The west gable is divided by cornices and pilaster strips . The church tower with a gable roof is located in the northern corner of the choir. It only slightly rises above the church roof of the nave. The sacristy attached to the east of the choir is a low building with a flat ceiling. The entrance to the pulpit is on the north side.

Furnishing

Baptismal font, around 1600

Three ceiling paintings in small mirrors by Johann Friedrich Sichelbein and depict the handover of the keys to Peter , the Assumption of Mary and the conversion of Paul . The stucco in the interior consists of tendrils, bands, angel heads and foliage.

The high altar, created in 1729, has a marbled wooden structure. The antependium , the tabernacle and the altarpiece are modern . To the right and left of the high altar, the wooden figures of Saints Peter and Paul are attached between columns . The two side altars from 1729 also have a marbled wooden structure, their altar leaves are modern. The left altar contains two figures of holy monks, the right sculptures probably depicting Saints Theodore and Alexander . The red marble font was made around 1600.

The pulpit on the north wall of the nave, from the time it was built, has a stucco construction. The pulpit is surrounded by small gilded wooden figures depicting Jesus Christ and four church fathers . Other wooden figures are a Pieta made around 1784 , a standing Mother of God from 1510/1520 and a crucifixion with Mary and John around 1760/1770.
