Transfer of relics

Wildeshausen town hall

In the winter of 850/851, at the instigation of Waltbraht or Waltbert , Count im Lerigau and grandson of the Saxon leader Widukind , relics of St. Alexander are said to have been brought to Wildeshausen in the east of his Gaus (south of Bremen ), where Waltbraht had founded a canonical monastery . This transfer was related to numerous other reliquary translations of the time that were intended to support the Sachsenmission . The translation legend De miraculis sancti Alexandri reports on the transmission and the miracles accompanying it .

In the 12th century , Alexander relics came to Neuwerk near Halle and the Ottobeuren imperial abbey . Two Wildeshauser Arm reliquaries from the first third of the 13th century are now in St. Georg in Vechta .
