Rupert Neß von Ottobeuren OSB (born November 24, 1670 in Wangen im Allgäu ; † October 20, 1740 in Ottobeuren ; also Rupert II. ) Was the 52nd abbot and imperial prelate of the Ottobeuren monastery .

Rupert's predecessor was the Abbot Gordian Scherrich. After Scherrich's death, the Ottobeurer convent elected Rupert by a large majority on May 8, 1710 as his successor.

Rupert Neß von Ottobeuren was given to the respected and wealthy Wangen master blacksmith Jakob Neß and his wife Magdalena, née. Forest mistress, born the third of seven children and baptized in the name of John Chrysostom. Rupert Neß von Ottobeuren graduated from high school at the collegiate school of the free and exempten Imperial Abbey of Ottobeuren. After graduation he entered there, got St. Rupert von Salzburg as the namesake and, at the age of not yet eighteen, took the religious vows on July 11, 1688.

In 1718 Abbot Rupert Neß von Ottobeuren took over the chairmanship of the Salzburg University Confederation.

Rupert Neß von Ottobeuren hired plasterers , sculptors and painters from the Bavarian, Swabian and Italian regions and was therefore primarily responsible for the complete new construction of the Ottobeuren basilica as it can be seen today.
