Seema Punia Antil (born July 27, 1983 in Sonipat , Haryana ) is an Indian discus thrower .
Athletic career
Seema Antil gained her first international experience at the Junior World Championships in Santiago de Chile in 2000 , where she originally won, but was disqualified and warned for doping after testing positive for the substance pseudoephedrine . In 2001 she won the silver medal at the Junior Asian Championships in Bandar Seri Begawan with 53.04 m. A year later she won the bronze medal at the Junior World Championships in Kingston . At the Junior Asian Championships in Bangkok in 2002 she won the bronze medal in the discus throw with 57.40 m and also in the shot put with 14.47 m.
In 2004 she retired from the Olympic Games in Athens in qualification with 60.64 m. At the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne in 2006 , she won the silver medal behind the South African Elizna Naudé . In 2005 she took part in the Asian Championships in Incheon and finished fifth there. Two years later she qualified for the World Championships in Berlin , where she was eliminated with 59.85 m in the qualification. In 2010 she won bronze at the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi . In 2012 she qualified again for the Olympic Games in London , where she barely qualified for the final with 61.99 m in qualification .
In 2013 she took part in the Asian Championships in Pune and finished fifth there. In 2014 she won the silver medal again at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and won the Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea . In 2016 she took part in the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro for the third time , but this time clearly missed the final qualification with 57.58 m in the qualification . In 2017 she finished sixth at the Asian Championships in Bhubaneswar with 54.11 m. In 2018, she won the silver medal behind Australian Dani Stevens at the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast with 60.41 m . At the end of August she won the bronze medal behind the two Chinese women Chen Yang and Feng Bin at the Asian Games in Jakarta with 62.26 m .
In 2009 and 2010 Punia was Indian champion in discus throwing.
