A Parisian adventure (French Une Aventure parisienne , first title Une Épreuve , also ud T. Pariser Abenteuer ) is a novella by Guy de Maupassant . It was first published in Le Gil Blas on December 22nd .

A woman from the provinces comes to Paris for a few days because she wants to get to know the vice. In an antique shop she meets the well-known writer Jean Varin, to whom the art dealer is offering a vase at a preferential price of 1000 francs, but he does not want to buy it. The woman bought the vase for 1,500 francs and gave it to Varin on condition that she would spend the whole day with her. They go for a walk in the Bois de Boulogne , drink absinthe in a boulevard café, have dinner and go to the theater. They also spend the night together, which is a disappointment for both of them. The next morning the woman sadly leaves Valin's house.
