India took part in the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich with a delegation of 41 athletes (40 men and one woman) in 27 competitions in seven sports. The flag bearer at the opening ceremony was DN Devine Jones , boxing coach of the Indian delegation. The only medal success was the third place in the hockey tournament.
