Albania took part in the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich with a delegation of five athletes (four men and one woman). It was Albania's first participation in the Olympic Games; the second followed in Barcelona in 1992 .
Ymer Pampuri won the first partial press competition . At the Olympic Games, however, it was not the individual disciplines that were evaluated, only the three-way battle. In Albania, however, only pushing was practiced , leaving Pampuri behind in pushing and tearing . Nevertheless, his partial victory and new Olympic record was a high point in Albanian sports history.
