Austria took part in the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich with a delegation of 111 athletes, 97 of them men and fourteen women. The standard bearer at the opening ceremony was the sailor Hubert Raudaschl .

Medals

The canoeist Norbert Sattler won silver in the slalom competition with the single kayak. Both the marksman Rudolf Dollinger and the athlete Ilona Gusenbauer won bronze. Dollinger was successful with the free pistol over 50 meters, Gusenbauer in high jumping.
