Austria took part in the 2004 Summer Olympics in the Greek capital Athens with 74 athletes, 20 women and 54 men.
The Austrian Olympic Committee (ÖOC) nominated the athletes for the Games on July 20, 2004. On August 3rd, they were sworn in by Federal President Heinz Fischer ; the formula of the pledge also included freedom from doping for the first time .
Since 1896 it was Austria's 24th participation in the Summer Olympics .
Flag bearer
The sailor Roman Hagara carried the flag of Austria during the opening ceremony in the Olympic Stadium .
Medals
With two won gold, four silver and one bronze medal, the Austrian team was ranked 27 in the medal count .

The youngest participant in Austria was the swimmer Mirna Jukić at 18 years and 129 days , and the oldest participant in the eventing rider Harald Riedl (42 years 363 days).
1 The originally registered Clemens Doppler had to cancel before the start of the Olympic Games due to an injury.
