The Maldives were represented at the Olympic Games for the fifth time with their participation in the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens . The first participation was in 1988; no medals have been won yet. The flag bearer at the opening ceremony was the athlete Sultan Saeed , who at the age of 28 was also the oldest Maldivian participant. The youngest member of the team consisting of four athletes (2 women and 2 men) was Aminath Rouya Hussain, a swimmer who was just under fourteen . All four participants were eliminated in the preliminary round.
