Although Somalia did not have a functioning central government, Somalia's National Olympic Committee sent two athletes, a woman and a man, to the 2004 Summer Olympics in the Greek capital, Athens .
Flag bearer
Head coach Mohamed Ahmed Alin carried the Somali flag during the opening ceremony in the Olympic Stadium .
