Michael Buchleitner (born October 14, 1969 in Mödling ) is a former Austrian obstacle and long-distance runner . He started at the Olympic Games in 1992, 2000 and 2004.

Career

At the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona he started in the obstacle course over 3000 meters, but was eliminated in the preliminary run. In the same discipline he won gold at the 1993 Universiade and bronze at the 1997 Universiade. At the World Athletics Championships he was tenth in Stuttgart in 1993, in 1997 in Athens he reached the semi-finals, and in 1999 in Seville he failed in the preliminaries.

At this time Buchleitner completed the marathon route and finished sixth in the Hamburg Marathon . In the marathon of the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney he came in 33rd place. In 2001 and 2004 he was fifth in the Vienna City Marathon , and in 2003 he was fourth Austrian marathon champion. In the marathon of the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, he finished 28th. At the 2004 Summer Paralympics , which then took place in the same place, he worked as a support runner for Henry Wanyoike , who ran world records over 5000 and 10,000 meters.

In 2004 he set an Austrian record in the half marathon as fourth in the Paderborn Easter run with 1:02:39 h , which was broken in 2007 by Günther Weidlinger . In 2005 he finished his competitive sports career with an eighth place in the Vienna City Marathon. He won a total of 27 national championship titles.

Michael Buchleitner completed a degree in business administration and started his own business. With '' run4business '' he runs a service company in the field of running, which has been responsible for the WACHAUmarathon since 2008 , in which Buchleitner won the half marathon in 1998 and 2003, and with '' ecosports consulting '' a sports management agency. He has also been organizing the Austrian edition of the Wings for Life World Run , a global charity run on behalf of Red Bull, since 2014 . In March 2016 he opened the RunInc.Store, an innovative specialist running shop, in downtown Vienna .

Michael Buchleitner is divorced and has a son and a daughter from his marriage to the former German athlete Ellen Kießling (* 1968).
